My Very First Blog Post

Since I'm now living across the country from my family and most of my friends, I decided to start this blog to keep everyone up to date with what's going on in our lives.  And since I'm no longer working, I need a project to keep me occupied.

Gerrit and I have been living in the Seattle area for a little over a year.  We've made some friends at the Bellevue Church of Christ where we attend, and we love the scenery.  However, it is difficult to be so far from family and friends.

Gerrit and I found out we were expecting a child in February.  We were excited, but nervous at the same time.  As the weeks have passed, it seems to be sinking in that we're going to be parents in a few months.  My pregnancy has been anything, but easy.  Two days after we found out I was pregnant, I came down with "all-day sickness."  This was so debilitating that I wasn't able to work after two weeks, so I resigned.  This sickness continued in full-force for eight weeks, and even while it subsided, I still had to take Zofran each morning.  At least now it works.

Then, two weeks after getting over the worst of the morning sickness, I tore a muscle in my lower back which landed me in the hospital for two days and has necessitated the use of a walker for the time being.  Torn muscles take about 3-4 weeks to heal, so I've been watching a lot of television and reading.

We're supposed to find out the gender of our baby this week, and we're both really excited.  I keep thinking it will be a girl, but who knows?  I just want a healthy baby.  I used to think people just said that, but when I hear of all the things that could happen, I really mean it.

Here are a few "catch up" pictures of the pregnancy.
